London Buses route W9 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Chase Farm Hospital and Southgate, it is operated by Sullivan Buses.


History Edit

Route W9 commenced operating on 9 September 1972 between Southgate Station and Enfield Town via The Bourne - Bourne Hill - Highlands Hospital - Grange Park. Route W9 was initially operated by London Transport from their Ponders End (E) garage using Ford Transits.

On 8 June 1975, the route was diverted via Fox Lane and Cranley Gardens between The Bourne and Bourne Hill.

On 5 December 1976, the Ford Transits were replaced by Bristol LHs.

On 24 April 1982, the route was extended from Southgate to Muswell Hill replacing part of withdrawn Route 244 and the Sunday service was withdrawn.

On 13 July 1985, the route passed to Eastern National using Reeve Burgess bodied Mercedes L608Ds.

On 5 March 1989, a Sunday PM Service was introduced between Enfield Town and Southgate.

In 1989, the Reeve Burgess bodied Mercedes L608Ds were replaced by larger Reeve Burgess bodied Mercedes-Benz 709Ds.

On 29 July 1990, the route passed to Thamesway operating from their Ponders End (PE) garage using Reeve Burgess bodied Mercedes-Benz 709Ds.

On 1 February 1992, the route was withdrawn between Southgate and Muswell Hill, this section replaced by New Route 299 and was extended from Enfield Town to Chase Farm Hospital and now runs all day on Sundays.

On 26 October 1996, the route was rerouted to serve Highlands Village.

On 26 June 1998, the route passed to Capital Citybus operating from their Northumberland Park (NP) garage using Reeve Burgess bodied Mercedes-Benz 709Ds.

On 4 March 2000, the route passed to Metroline operating from their Potters Bar (PB) garage using Plaxton Pointer bodied Dennis Darts.

On 5 February 2005, the route was retained by Metroline and was converted to low floor using Marshall Capital and Plaxton Pointer bodied Dennis Dart SLFs.

On 2 July 2005, fixed stops were introduced at Highlands Village.

In April 2007, the Marshall Capital and Plaxton Pointer bodied Dennis Dart SLFs were replaced by dual doored Plaxton Pointer 2 bodied Dennis Dart SLFs.

On 6 February 2010, the route was retained by Metroline.

In September 2012, the Plaxton Pointer 2 bodied Dennis Dart SLFs were replaced by brand new Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 Darts.

On 4 February 2017, the route was passed to Sullivan Buses with brand new Enviro 200 MMC bodied Alexander Dennis E20D's introduced.
