London Buses route W8 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Chase Farm Hospital and Picketts Lock, it is operated by Metroline.
Route W8 commenced operating in 1969 between Chase Farm Hospital and Lower Edmonton Station via Gordon Hill - Enfield Town - Park Avenue - Village Road - Church Street. The route was introduced to replace former route 128. The route was initially operated by London Transport from their Ponders End (E) garage using AEC Merlins.
In 1973, the route extended from Lower Edmonton to Picketts Lock Centre.
In 1974, the route was converted to double deck operation using Daimler Fleetlines and the allocation was transferred from Ponders End (E) garage to Edmonton (EM) garages.
In 1976, route W8 extended from Lower Ldmonton to Picketts Lock Mon-Fri pm peak and garage journeys extended in service to Edmonton Tramway Avenue.
In 1982, the Daimler Fleetlines were replaced by MCW Metrobuses.
In 1985, part of the allocation was transferred to Potters Bar (PB) garage.
In 1986, Edmonton (EM) was announced closed and the Edmonton allocation was transferred to Potters Bar (PB) garage.
In 1998, the route passed to Capital Citybus operating from their Northumberland Park (NP) garage using MCW Metrobuses.
In 1999, the route was converted to low floor operation using Plaxton President bodied Dennis Tridents.
On 2 September 2003, the route was converted back to double deck using Plaxton President bodied Dennis Tridents.
In 2010, the route was retained by Metroline.
In 2015, the Plaxton President bodied Dennis Tridents were replaced by Alexander Dennis Enviro 400s.
The route will be retained by Metroline from 22 July 2017.
