London Buses route N28 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Camden Town and Wandsworth, it is operated by London Transit RATP Dev.
History[]
Route N28, together with route N31, runs the night service for routes 28, 31, and 328.
Route N28 commenced operating on 29 May 1999 between Camden Town Bayham Street and Wandsworth Mapleton Road via Camden Palace - Camden Lock - Chalk Farm - Swiss Cottage - Kilburn - Westbourne Park - Notting Hill Gate - Kensington - Olympia - North End Road - Fulham - Wandsworth Bridge. The route was initially operated by First London from their Westbourne Park (X) garage using Marshal Capital bodied Dennis Dart SLFs.
On 1 May 2004, the route was retained by First London.
On 4 June 2004, the route was converted to double-deck using brand new Wright Eclipse Gemini bodied Volvo B7TLs.
On 30 April 2011, the route was retained by First London.
On 1 October 2011, the allocation was transferred to Atlas Road (AS) garage.
On 22 June 2013, the route was included in the sale of First London's Atlas Road garage to Tower Transit.
On 30 April 2016, the route was retained by Tower Transit.
In June 2016, the Wright Eclipse Gemini bodied Volvo B7TLs were replaced by Wright Eclipse Gemini 2 bodied Volvo B9TLs.
On 1 July 2017, Atlas Road (AS) garage was announced closed and the allocation was transferred to Westbourne Park (X) garage.
On 1 May 2021, the route passed to London United, operating from their Wandsworth (JE) garage, using existing Wright Eclipse Gemini 2 bodied Volvo B5LHs.
On 29 January 2022, the operation for the route was transferred to London Transit RATP Dev operating from their Westbourne Park (X) garage.
On 23 September 2022, existing Optare MetroDecker EVs were introduced alongside the existing Wright Eclipse Gemini 2 bodied Volvo B5LHs.
On 10 March 2023, the Optare MetroDecker EVs were replaced by existing Wright Eclipse Gemini 3 bodied Volvo B5LHs.
On 6 May 2023, the route was converted to a full Optare MetroDecker EV and Enviro 400 City EV bodied BYD D8UR-DD operation.
From 24 July 2023 until 29 July 2023, the route was temporarily re-routed to and from Clapham Junction instead of Wandsworth via Battersea Bridge due to works in the local area and the closure of Wandsworth Bridge.
From 30 July 2023 until 2 October 2023, the route was temporarily diverted between Fulham Broadway and Wandsworth Bridge South Side via Battersea Bridge due to essential safety repairs on Wandsworth Bridge, with it's temporary day route 728
On 30 September 2023, the route converted to a full Optare MetroDecker EV operation.
The route will pass to Metroline operating from their Willesden Junction (WJ) garage using existing Wright Eclipse Gemini 2 bodied Volvo B9TLs from 4 May 2024.
