London Buses route E1 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Greenford and Ealing Broadway, it is operated by Abellio London.

HistoryEdit

Route E1 commenced operating on 30 November 1968 between Greenford and Brentford via Ealing Broadway station, West Ealing and Hanwell. The route was introduced to replace routes route 83 and 211 between between Ealing and Brentford. The route was initially operated by London Transport from their Hanwell garage (HL) using AEC Merlins.

On 7 December 1975, it was converted to double-deck operation using Daimler Fleetlines.

On 17 December 1981, the Daimler Fleetlines were replaced by MCW Metrobuses.

In 1988, the route passed to CentreWest but still operating from Hanwell (HL) garage.

On 10 November 1990, the route was withdrawn between Ealing and Brentford, this section was replaced by route E8. At the same time, the E1 was converted to minibus operation using Wright Nimbus-bodied Renault S75s but the Monday to Friday peak services continued to be operated by MCW Metrobuses.

On 27 March 1993, Hanwell (HL) garage was announced closed and the main allocation moved to new Greenford (G) garage, while the double deck peak operation moved to Alperton (ON) garage.


In March 1997, the route was included in the sale of CentreWest to First London.

On 24 May 1997, the route was retained by First London and the Monday to Saturday service was convered to double deck operation using Alexander RL and Northern Counties bodied Leyland Olympians, and the Sunday service was converted to low floor operation using Marshall Capital bodied Dennis Dart SLFs. At the same time, the Alperton (ON) allocation was withdrawn.

On 25 May 2002, the route was retained by First London and was converted to low floor operation using Plaxton President bodied Dennis Tridents.

In May 2009, the route was retained by First London using brand new Alexander Dennis Enviro 400s.

On 22 June 2013, the route was included in the sale of First London's Greenford (G) garage to Metroline.

On 31 May 2014, Abellio London operating from their Hayes garage (WS) using brand new Alexander Dennis Enviro 400Hs.

In September 2015, an Alexander ALX400 bodied Dennis Trident was introduced.

On 20 August 2016, a half hourly weekend night service was introduced.
