London Buses route 492 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Bluewater and Sidcup, it is operated by Arriva London.
Route 492 commenced operating on 26 January 1988 between Dartford and Sidcup Station via Crayford and Bexley as a Monday to Saturday service. The route was initially operated by Bexleybus from their Bexleyheath (BX) garage using Leyland Nationals.
On 26 November 1988, the route passed to Boro'line London operating from their Crayford (CR) garage using Leyland Lynxes.
On 17 February 1992, the route was included in the sale of Boro'line to Kentish Bus.
On 23 March 1999, the route was extended from Dartford to Bluewater Shopping Centre and the Leyland Titans were replaced by Northern Counties bodied Volvo Olympians.
On 22 October 2000, a Sunday service was introduced.
On 26 February 2001, part of the allocation was transferred to Blue Triangle operating from their Rainham (BE) garage using Northern Counties bodied Volvo Olympians and low floor Plaxton Plaxton bodied Volvo B7TLs were introduced.
On 29 September 2001, the allocation was transferred from Blue Triangle's Rainham (BR) garage to London Central's Bexleyheath (BX) garage. The was converted to full low floor operation using Plaxton President bodied Volvo B7TLs.
On 24 January 2009, the route was retained by Arriva Kent Thameside.
On 1 January 2016, the Arriva group restructured its bus operations, which included the transfer of route 492 from Arriva Kent Thameside to Arriva London.
On 23 January 2016, the route was retained by Arriva London with brand new Alexander Dennis Enviro 400s introduced.
