London Buses route 490 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 and Richmond, it is operated by Abellio London.
Route 490 commenced on 23 August 1997 running between Hatton Cross Station and Richmond Dee Road via Faggs Road - Feltham Station - Hanworth - Staines Road - Twickenham - Richmond. The route was initially operated by London Buslines (later part of First London) using Marshall Capital bodied Dennis Dart SLFs. The route was introduced primarily as a replacement for the withdrawn section of route 90 between Feltham and Richmond, but it still overlaps Route 90 between Hatton Cross and Feltham.
In 2002, the route was converted to low floor operation using Plaxton Pointer 2 bodied Dennis Dart SLFs.
In September 2005, the route was included in the sale of Tellings-Golden Miller to Travel London.
In March 2008, the route was extended from Hatton Cross to Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 via Heathrow Airport Terminal 4. At the same time, buses were diverted off the main route to serve Feltham station in order to provide a link for rail passengers to Terminals 4 and 5.
In May 2009, the route was included in the sale of Travel London to Abellio London.
On 27 June 2009, the route was Diverted at Richmond to Pools on the Park instead of Manor Circus.
On 25 August 2012, the route was retained by Abellio London using 10.2m & 10.8m Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 Darts.
On 7 September 2015, Plaxton Pointer 2 and Caetano Nimbus bodied Dennis Dart SLFs were introduced.
