London Buses route 474 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Manor Park and Canning Town, it is operated by Stagecoach London.

History

Route 474 commenced operation on 1 May 1999 between Canning Town Hermit Road and East Beckton Asda via Canning Town Station - Silvertown Way - Albert Road - North Woolwich - Woolwich Manor Way - Gallions Reach DLR - Cyprus. The route was introduced to replace the southern section of route 69 between Canning Town station and North Woolwich. It was initially operated by Blue Triangle from their Ferry Lane (FL) garage using MCW Metrobuses.

On 23 October 1999, the route was converted to low floor operation using East Lancs Lolyne bodied Dennis Tridents.

On 1 May 2004, it was retained by Blue Triangle.

On 17 December 2005 the route was extended from East Beckton to Manor Park Station via route 101, and diverted at Silvertown to double run via London City Airport.

On 29 June 2007, the route was included in the sale of Blue Triangle to the Go-Ahead Group.

On 3 November 2007, the route was converted into a 24-hour service and was transferred to Docklands Buses from their Silvertown (SI) garage.

On 30 April 2011, the route was retained by Docklands Buses with Scania OmniDekkas and brand new Wright Eclipse Gemini 2 bodied Volvo B9TLs introduced.

In January 2016, the Scania OmniDekkas were replaced by Wright Eclipse Gemini bodied Volvo B7TLs.

On 1 October 2016, the route was transferred back to Blue Triangle operating from their River Road (RR) garage and Optare Olympus bodied Scania N230UDs were introduced.

In October 2017, the route was converted to full Wright Eclipse Gemini bodied Volvo B7TL and Wright Eclipse Gemini 2 bodied Volvo B9TL operation.

On 5 May 2018, the route passed to Stagecoach London operating from their West Ham (WH) using Alexander ALX400 bodied Dennis Tridents and Alexander Dennis Enviro 400s.

The Alexander ALX400 bodied Dennis Tridents and Alexander Dennis Enviro 400s will be replaced by brand new Enviro 400 MMC bodied Alexander Dennis E40Hs from May 2018.

The route will be rerouted via Custom House and Keir Hardie Estate from 8 December 2018.
