London Buses route 462 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Grange Hill and Ilford, it is operated by Stagecoach London.


History Edit

Route 462 commenced operating on 26 June 1993 between Ilford Hainault Street and Barkingside Fullwell Cross via Ilford Station - Cranbrook Road - Beehive Lane - Eastern Avenue - Gants Hill Station - Woodford Avenue - Longwood Gardens - Fremantle Road - Barkingside High Street as a Monday to Saturday service. The route was initially operated by from Thamesway their Brentwood (BD) garage using Reeve Burgess bodied Mercedes 608D's.

On 14 October 1995, the allocation was transferred to Ponders End (PE) garage.

On 26 September 1998, the route passed to First Capital but still operating from Ponder End (PE) garage.

On 9 January 1999, the route was extended from Barkingside to Hainault via withdrawn section of Route 362 and the Reeve Burgess bodied Mercedes 608D's were replaced by Mercedes Varios.

On 23 June 2001, the allocation was transferred to Northumberland Park (NP) garage and the Mercedes Varios were replaced by Wright Handybus bodied Dennis Darts.

On 1 December 2001, the allocation was transferred to Dagenham (DM) garage.

On 23 March 2002, the route was retained by First Capital and was converted to low floor operation using Marshall Capital bodied Dennis Dart SLFs. At the same time, the allocation was transferred to Rainham (R) garage and a Sunday service was introduced.

On 17 December 2005, the allocation was moved back to Dagenham (DM) garage.

On 24 March 2007, the route passed to Arriva London operating from their Barking (DX) garage with Plaxton Pointer 2 bodied Dennis Dart SLFs.

On 7 May 2011, the route was altered to run clockwise round Limes Farm Estate, rather than anticlockwise.

On 24 March 2012, the route passed to Blue Triangle operating from their Rainham (BE) garage using brand new Wright StreetLites.

On 25 June 2016, the route was re-structured to operate from Limes Farm Estate (Limes Avenue at junction with Copperfield/Amanda Close) via existing routeing via Grange Hill to Hainault, then Elmbridge Road, Forest Road and Fairlop to Barkingside, then existing routeing to Ilford.

On 2 July 2016, the allocation was transferred to River Road (RR) garage.

On 27 March 2017, the route passed to Stagecoach London operating from their Barking (BK) garage with brand new Enviro 200 MMC bodied Alexander Dennis E20Ds introduced.
