London Buses route 428 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Erith and Bluewater, it is operated by Arriva London.

History Edit

Route 428 commenced on 23 January 1999 between Dartford Home Gardens and Erith Bexley Road via East Hill - Overy Liberty - Dartford High Street - Market Street - Market Street (North Side) - Market Street - Lowfield Street - Instone Road - Highfield Road - West Hill - Dartford Road - Crayford Road - Roman Way - London Road - Crayford Way - Thames Road - Howbury Lane - Whitehall Lane - Bridge Road - Northend Road - Perry Street Roundabout - Northend Road - South Road - Queens Road - James Watt Way - Erith High Street - Pier Road - Colebrook Street - Wharfside Close. The route was initially operated by Arriva Kent Thameside from their Darford (DT) garage using Plaxton Pointer 2 bodied Dennis Dart SLFs. Prior to 23 January 1999 the was route previously a commercial route.

On 13 March 1999, the route extended from Dartford to Bluewater non stop.

On 23 September 2000, the route was rerouted at Watling Street via Darenth Wood Road to double run via Darent Wood Hospital.

On 24 January 2004, the route was retained by Arriva Kent Thameside.

On 24 January 2009, the route was retained by Arriva Kent Thameside.

In March 2009, the Plaxton Pointer 2 bodied Dennis Dart SLFs were replaced by brand new Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 Darts.

From 2011 until 2013, a MCV Evolution bodied VDL SB180 demonstrator was temporarily introduced.

From 16 February 2013 to 8 July 2013, A Streetlite demonstrator was temporarily introduced.

On 25 January 2014, the route was retained by Arriva Kent Thameside.

In January 2016, the Arriva group restructured its bus operations, which included the transfer of Route 428 from Arriva Kent Thameside to Arriva London.

On 20 August 2016, the route was rerouted towards Erith direct from Bridge Road to Northend Road northbound.
