London Buses route 412 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Purley and West Croydon, it is operated by Arriva London.
Route 412 commenced operation on 1 September 1990 between West Croydon Bus Station and Old Logde Lane via South Croydon - Upper Selsdon Road - Selsdon - Sanderstead - Riddlesdown - Purley - Brighton Road as a Monday to Saturday service. The route was initially operated by South London Buses from their Thornton Heath (TH) garage using Carlyle Dartline bodied Dennis Darts. The route was introduced to replace section of route 12A between Croydon to Old Lodge Lane.
On 27 March 1993, a school journey between West Croydon and Wallington was introduced using MCW Metrobuses.
On 9 October 1993, the route was withdrawn between Purley and Old Lodge Lane, this section replaced by new route 450 and the MCW Metrobuses were replaced by ECW bodied Leyland Olympians.
On 5 September 1994, the new school year had started and the 412 had an additional pm journey from Warlingham School (Via Sanderstead) until it met with the 412 routing.
On 3 January 1995, the school journeys was renumbered 612.
On 9 December 1995, the route was extended from Croydon to Norwood Junction.
On 19 January 1996, the Carlyle Dartline bodied Dennis Darts were replaced by Plaxton Pointer bodied Dennis Darts.
On 30 August 1997, the allocation was transferred to Thornton Heath (TH) garage.
On 29 August 1998, the route was withdrawn between Croydon and Norwood Junction, this section was replaced by new route 410, the Hamsey Green journey was renumbered 612 and a Sunday service was introduced.
On 15 September 2001, the route was converted to low floor using Plaxton Pointer 2 bodied Dennis Dart SLFs.
On 31 May 2003, the route was diverted at South Croydon via Sussex Road to avoid low bridge.
On 31 August 2003, the route was converted to double deck operation using Alexander ALX400 bodied DAF DB250LFs.
On 30 August 2008, the route was retained by Arriva London.
In 2010, Wright Pulsar Gemini bodied DAF DB250LFs were introduced.
On 16 October 2010, the route was extended in Purley from Tesco to Hospital Brighton Road.
On 31 August 2013, the route was retained by Arriva London.
In 2014, the Wright Pulsar Gemini bodied DAF DB250LFs and Alexander ALX400 bodied DAF DB250LFs were replaced by Alexander Dennis Enviro 400s.
Arriva London will be retaining this route from 1 September 2018.
