London Buses route 355 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Mitcham and Brixton, it is operated by London General.

History Edit

Route 355 commenced operating on 28 April 1990 between Colliers Woods Station and Elephant & Castle via Tooting - Balham - Clapham - Stockwell - Kennington as a Monday to Saturday service. The route was introduced to partly replace the withdrawn section of route 88 between Clapham & Tooting. The route was initially operated by London General from their Merton (AL) garage using Daimler Fleetlines.

On 25 May 1991, the route was re-routed at Tooting to Mitcham, routes 219 and 355 exchanged southern terminals.

On 28 November 1992, the route was converted to One Person Operation using Wright Handybus bodied Dennis Darts.

On 29 June 1996, the route was withdrawn between Stockwell & Elephant & Castle.

On 29 May 1999, a Sunday service was introduced and the route was converted to low floor operation using Plaxton Pointer 2 bodied Dennis Dart SLFs.

On 30 April 2005, the route was diverted at Clapham South via Kings Avenue and Acre Lane to Brixton instead of Landor Road, the withdrawn section was replaced by route 322.

On 11 December 2010, the route was retained by London General.

On 31 March 2012. the route was transferred to fellow Go-Ahead London subsidiary London Central's Camberwell (Q) garage.

In May 2016, the Plaxton Pointer 2 bodied Dennis Dart SLFs were replaced by Optare Esteem bodied Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 Darts.

On 27 August 2016, the route was transferred to London General's Croydon (C) garage and the Optare Esteem bodied Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 Darts were replaced by Plaxton Pointer 2 bodied Dennis Dart SLFs.

The route will be retained by London General with brand new Wright StreetLites introduced from 9 December 2017.
