London Buses route 312 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Old Lodge Lane and Norwood Junction, it is operated by Arriva London.
History[]
Route 312 commenced operation on 1 September 1990 between Peckham Garage and South Croydon Swan & Sugar LOAF via Dulwich - Forest Hill - Sydenham - Penge - Anerley - Norwood Junction - Addiscombe - Croydon. The route was introduced to replace withdrawn route 12A. The route initially operated by South London from their Thornton Heath (TH) garage using Leyland Olympians.
On 12 March 1994, the allocation was transferred to Croydon (TC) garage and was extended in South Croydon from Swan & Sugar Loaf to South Croydon Bus Garage.
On 17 March 2001, the route was converted to low floor operation using Alexander ALX400 bodied DAF DB250LFs.
On 3 September 2005, the route was withdrawn between Norwood Junction and Peckham - this section replaced by route 197 and the route was converted to single deck operation using Plaxton Pointer 2 bodied Dennis Dart SLFs.
On 4 September 2010, the route was retained by Arriva London.
On 10 December 2014, brand new Optare MetroCity EVs were introduced alongside the existing Plaxton Pointer 2 bodied Dennis Dart SLFs.
On 5 September 2015, the route was retained by Arriva London using brand new and existing Optare MetroCity EVs.
From April 2018 to May 2018 a brand new Yutong E10 electric demonstator was trialled on the route.
On 17 August 2018, an electric Plaxton Pointer 2 bodied Dennis Dart SLF was introduced alongside the existing Optare MetroCity EVs.
On 18 October 2018, the electric Plaxton Pointer 2 bodied Dennis Dart SLF was withdrawn and the route converted back to a full Optare MetroCity EV operation.
On 5 September 2020, the route was retained by Arriva London.
On 2 September 2023, existing Wright StreetDecks were temporarily introduced alongside the existing Optare MetroCity EVs.
On 1 October 2023, the route reverted to a full Optare MetroCity EV operation.
On 1 March 2024, existing Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 Darts were introduced alongside the existing Optare MetroCity EVs.
On 2 March 2024, the route was extended from South Croydon to Purley Old Lodge Lane via Brighton Road partially replacing route 455. At the same time, the PVR increased from 7 to 12 and the route converted to a full Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 Dart operation.
