London Buses route 309 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Canning Town and London Chest Hospital, it is operated by CT Plus.
Route 309 commenced operating on 25 September 1993 running between Bethnal Green Three Colts Lane and Poplar Aberfeldy Estate via Roman Road - Globe Road - Stepney Green - White Horse Lane - Ben Johnson Road,Rhodeswell Road - St Paul;s Way - Bow Common Lane - Upper North Street - Cordelia Street - Chrisp Street - Poplar All Saints DLR - East India Dock Road - Blair Street - Aberfeldy Street,Abbott Road - Ettrick Street. The route was initially operated by Stagecoach East London from their Stratford (SD) garage using MCW Metroriders.
On 12 November 1994, buses now run both ways via Blair Street towards Bethanl Green instead of Ettrick Street.
On 25 February 1995, the route was extended from Bethnal Green Station to Chest Hospital.
On 25 April 1998, the route was diverted at Poplar via Willis Street - Hay Currie Street - Burcham Street - St Leonards Road - Zetland Road - and contra flow bus lane underneath Blackwall Tunnel approach Road instead of via East India Dock Road.
On 18 September 1999, the route was extended from Aberfeldy Street to Canning Town Bus Station via Blair Street - Abbott Road - East India Dock Road.
On 4 March 2000, the route was retained by Stagecoach East London and was converted to low floor operation using Alexander ALX200 bodied Dennis Dart SLFs.
On 5 March 2005, the route passed to First London operating from their Hackney (H) garage using Marshall Capital bodied Dennis Dart SLFs.
On 1 December 2007, the allocation was transferred to Dagenham (DM) garage.
On 4 April 2009, the allocation was transferred to Lea Interchange (LI) garage.
On 1 November 2010, the route was rerouted in Poplar from Zetland Road via A12 northbound - Devon Street - Twelvetrees Crescent - Gillender Street - and A 12southbound to reach Abbott Road.
On 30 July 2011, the route was rerouted in Poplar towards Canning Town from Zetland Road to a direct right turn onto A12 and then into Abbott Road.
On 3 March 2012, the route passed to CT Plus operating from their Ash Grove (HK) garage using brand new Optare Solos.
On 4 March 2017, the route was retained by CT Plus.
A brand new Enviro 200 MMC bodied Alexander Dennis E20Ds will be introduced 2017.
