London Buses route 261 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Princess Royal Hospital and Lewisham, it is operated by Stagecoach London.


Route 262 was introduced on 4 September 1982 between ORPINGTON Goodmead Road and BROCKLEY RISE via Farnborough - Bromley Common - Bromley - Grove Park - Baring Road - Lee - LEWISHAM - Crofton Park. It was initially operated by London Transport from their Bromley (TB) garage using AEC Routemasters. The route was introduced to replace route 94 between Brockley Rise and Bromley, the route 47 between Bromley and Farnborough and route 51 between Farnborough and Orpington.

On 23 April 1983, the route was converted to one person operation using Leyland nationals.

On 27 April 1985, the route was withdrawn between Lewisham and Brockley Rise and converted to double deck using Leyland Titans.

On 16 August 1986, the route was withdrawn between Bromley Garage and Orpington. This was part of the new 'Roundabout' local minibus scheme for the Orpington area. The section from Bromley Garage to Green Street Green was part compensated by Route 361.

On 21 November 1981, the route passed to Metrobus operating from their Orpington (MB) garage using Roe bodied Leyland Olympians.

On 13 May 1989, the Monday to Saturday garage journeys were extended from Bromley Common to Green Street Green.

On 21 November 1992, the Saturday service was withdrawn between Bromley Common & Green Street Green.

In 1996, the route was retained by Metrobus and the Roe bodied Leyland Olympians were replaced by Northern Counties Palatine 1 bodied Volvo Olympians.

In June 2001, the Northern Counties Palatine 1 bodied Volvo Olympians were replace by Northern Counties bodied Volvo Olympians.

On 3 December 2001, the route was converted to low floor double deck operation using East Lancs Loyne bodied Dennis Tridents and withdrawn between Bromley Common and Green Street Green.

On 2 December 2006, the route was retained by Metrobus using brand new Scania OmniDekkas and East Lancs Loyne bodied Dennis Tridents.

On 24 February 2007, the route was extended from Bromley Common to Locks Bottom via Hastings Road.

On 2 June 2007,the route was converted to full Scania OmniDekka Operation.

On 30 November 2013, the route passed to Stagecoach London using brand new Alexander Dennis Enviro 400s and Alexander ALX400 bodied Dennis Tridents.
