London Buses route 198 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Shrublands and Thornton Heath, it is operated by Arriva London.


Route 198 commenced operating on 14 March 1992 between Thornton Heath High Street and Shrublands Estate via Thornton Heath Pond - West Croydon - East Croydon - Addiscombe Road - Shirley - Wickham Road - Bridle Road - Shrublands Avenue. It was operated by Selkent from their Bromley (TB) garage using Leyland Titans. The route was introduced to replace the withdrawn section of route 119 between Croydon and Thornton Heath and to replace withdrawn routes 194A and 194B.

On 8 November 1997, the route passed to Arriva London operating from their Thorton Heath (TH) garage using ECW bodied Leyland Olympians.

On 30 August 2003, the route was retained by Arriva London using low floor Alexander ALX400 bodied DAF DB250LFs.

On 28 August 2010, the route was retained by Arriva London using Alexander ALX400 bodied DAF DB250LFs and brand new Alexander Dennis Enviro 400s.

On 29 August 2015, the route was retained by Arriva London and the route was converted to full Alexander Dennis Enviro 400 operation.
