London Buses route 181 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Grove Park and Lewisham stations, it is operated by London General.
Route 181 commenced operation on 27 October 1984 as a Monday to Saturday route between Lewisham and Lower Sydenham (Bell Green) replacing route 180, which continued to provide the Sunday service to Lower Sydenham.
On 3 August 1985, route 181 was extended on Monday to Saturdays to Surrey Docks Station replacing route P5 over this section. At the same time it was introduced on Sundays between Lewisham and Lower Sydenham replacing route 180, bringing the Sunday service into line with that on Monday to Saturday.
On 27 January 1996, the route passed to Metrobus operating from their Green Street Green (MB) garage.
On 17 March 2001, the route passed to Stagecoach London operating from their Catford (TL) garage with brand new Alexander ALX200 bodied Dennis Dart SLFs introduced.
On 18 March 2006, the route returned to Metrobus operating from their Polhill garage (PH) with brand new East Lancs Esteem bodied Scania Omnitown N94UBs introduced. The route was extended from Downham to Grove Park at the same time.
On 3 June 2006, the allocation was transferred from Polhill (PH) to Orpington (MB) garages.
In July 2014, the Go-Ahead Group restructured its bus operations, which included the transfer of Route 181 from Metrobus to Go-Ahead London.
