London Buses route 144 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Edmonton Green and Muswell Hill Broadway, it is operated by Arriva London.

History

Route 144 commenced operating on 17 September 1994 between Edmonton Green Station and Muswell Hill Broadway via Lower Fore Street - Angel - Silver Street - Great Cambridge Road - Lordship Lane - Wood Green - Turnpike Lane Station - Priory Road - Hornsey. The route was initially operated by Leaside Buses from their Wood Green (WN) garage using Wright bodied Scania SLFs and MCW Metrobuses. The route was introduced to replaced route 144A.

On 27 March 1999, the Wright bodied Scania SLFs were replaced by Alexander ALX400 bodied DAF DB250LFs.

On 16 October 1999, the route was retained by Arriva London.

On 16 October 2004, the route was retained by Arriva London.

In 2008, the Wright Eclipse Gemini bodied Volvo B7TLs were introduced.

On 15 October 2011, the route was retained by Arriva London.

In March 2012, the Alexander ALX400 bodied DAF DB250LFs were replaced by brand new Alexander Dennis Enviro 400s.

In July 2013, the Alexander Dennis Enviro 400s were replaced by brand new Wright Gemini 2 bodied VDL DB300s.

In March 2015, a brand new Wright StreetDeck demonstrator was temporarily introduced.

In March 2016, the Wright StreetDeck demonstrator was withdrawn.

Previous route 144 in London

Until 1988 a route 144 ran between Ilford and Turnpike Lane (prior to 1982, also Muswell Hill). This was curtailed east of Edmonton and re-routed to Chingford, being renumbered 444 in 1991. The Muswell Hill to Turnpike Lane section formed the basis of the 144A (introduced 1982) which was renumbered to the present 144 in 1994.
