London Buses route R9 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Orpington and Orpington, it is operated by London General

HistoryEdit

Route R9 commenced operating on 17 August 1996 between Orpington Station and Orpington Station via Station Road - Spur Road - Gravel Pit Way - Orpington Walnuts Centre - Homefield Rise - High Street - Spur Road - Court Road - Avalon Road - Tintagel Road - Petten Grove - Ramsden Estate - Chelsfield Lane - Avalon Road - Court Road - Spur Road - Gravel Pit Way - Orpington Walnuts Centre - Homefield Rise - High Street - Station Road. The route was initially operated by CentreWest from their Orpington (Y) garage using Plaxton Pointer bodied Dennis Darts. The route was introduced to replace withdrawn route 493.

On 24 March 1997, before 0835 on Monday to Friday - buses would omit the Homefield Rise loop - running direct via Spur Road.

On 18 August 2001, the route was retained by First London.

In October 2001, the route was converted to low floor operation using Marshall Capital bodied Dennis Dart SLFs.

On 19 August 2006, the route was retained by First London.

On 8 December 2007, the route was included in the sale of First London's Orpington (Y) garage to Metrobus and the allocation was transferred to Orpington (MB) garage.

On 20 August 2011, the route was retained by Metrobus with brand new Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 Darts introduced.

In July 2014, the Go-Ahead Group restructured its bus operations, which included the transfer of Route R9 from Metrobus to Go-Ahead London.
