London Buses route R8 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Biggin Hill and Orpington, it is operated by London General
Route R8 commenced operating on 21 February 2004 between Biggin Hill Post Office and Orpington Station via Church Road - Aperfield Road - Main Road - Jail Lane - Berry's Green - Single Street - Luxted Road - Downe - High Elms Road - Shire Lane - Farnborough Hill - Green Street Green - Sevenoaks Road - High Street - Homefield Rise - Station Road - Station Approach. The route was initially operated by Tellings Golden Miller from their Crayford (TD) garage using Plaxton Beaver 2 bodied Mercedes Varios. The route was introduced to replace the withdrawn section of route R2.
On 6 March 2004, the route was revised in Orpington: buses were to stop in the High Street at McDonalds instead of at Walnuts Centre, and buses arriving in Orpington before 0900 were to miss out the High Street completely.
In April 2004, the route was converted to low floor operation using Mercedes Sprinters.
On 5 March 2005, the route was included in the sale of Tellings Golden Millers' Crayford (TD) garage to Metrobus. The allocation was transferred to Polehill (PH) garage at the same time.
On 3 June 2006, the allocation moved from Polehill (PH) to Orpington (MB) garages.
On 2 December 2006, the route was retained by Metrobus with brand new Optare Solos introduced.
On 3 December 2011, the route was retained by Metrobus.
On 20 February 2012, a Monday to Friday schoolday journey was added in each peak between Green Street Green and Charles Darwin School at Biggin Hill.
In July 2014, the Go-Ahead Group restructured its bus operations, which included the transfer of Route R8 from Metrobus to Go-Ahead London.
On 1 April 2017, the route was retained by London General using an Alexander Dennis Enviro 200.
