London Buses route 491 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Waltham Cross and North Middlesex Hospital, it is operated by London General.
History
Route 491 commenced operating on 2 June 2001 between Waltham Cross Bus Station and North Middlesex Hospital via Mollison Avenue - Island village ( double run ) - Newbury Avenue - Mollison Avenue - double run into Innova Park - Lea Valley Road - Nags Head Road - High Street Ponders End - Gallard Road - Bury Street - Edmonton Green - Fore Street - Angel Corner - Bridport Road as a Monday to Saturday service. The route was initially operated by Arriva London from their Enfield (E) garage using Plaxton Pointer bodied Dennis Darts.
In October 2001, the route was converted to low floor operation using Plaxton Pointer 2 bodied Dennis Dart SLFs.
On 15 October 2005, a Sunday service was introduced.
On 4 August 2007, the route was rerouted off the North Circular Road slip Road to North Middlesex Hospital via Gloucester Road - Bridport Road - Bull Lane.
On 2 February 2008, the route was rerouted again at North Circular Road to operate southbound direct via Bull Lane to new stand at North Middlesex Hospital instead of via Gloucester Road - Bridport Road.
On 31 May 2008, the route was retained by Arriva London with brand new Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 Darts introduced.
On 25 February 2012, the route was rerouted at Innova Business Park via Solar Way and Innova Way in both directions instead of double running on Innova Way.
On 1 June 2013, the route was retained by London General operating from their Northumberland Park (NP) garage with brand new Wright StreetLites introduced.
