London Buses route 286 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Sidcup and Greenwich, it is operated by London Central.
Route 286 commenced operation on 21 June 1986 between Greenwich Cutty Sark and Eltham Southend Crescent via Blackheath - Rochester Way. The route was initially operated by London Transport from their New Cross (NX) garage using Leyland Titans. The route was introduced to replace sections of routes 108 and 108B.
On 16 August 1986, the allocation was transferred to Sidcup (SP) garage.
On 16 January 1988, the allocation was transferred to New Cross (NX) garage and the Leyland Titans were replaced by ECW bodied Leyland Olympians.
On 8 July 1989, the route was converted to midibus operation using Optare StarRiders.
On 11 July 1992, the route passed to Transcity Coaches using Plaxton Pointer bodied Dennis Darts.
On 28 October 1993, the route was included in the sale of Transcity Coaches to Kentish Buses and the allocation was transferred to Dartford (DT) garage.
On 8 October 1994, the route was rerouted daily between the "Dover Patrol" and Shooters Hill Road via Kidbrooke Park Road instead of Rochester Way.
On 24 January 1998, the route was extended from Eltham to Sidcup - which replaced diverted section of Route 233.
On 15 July 2000, the route was retained by Arriva Kent Thameside and was converted to low floor operation using Plaxton Pointer 2 bodied Dennis Dart SLFs.
On 18 May 2002, part of the allocation was transferred to Northfleet (NF) garage.
On 28 September 2002, the Northfleet (NF) allocation was transferred to Dartford (DT) garage.
On 25 November 2006, the route was rerouted via bus gate on Westcombe Hill.
On 14 July 2007, the route was retained by Arriva Kent Thameside with brand new Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 Darts introduced.
on 12 July 2014, the route passed to London Central operating from their New Cross (NX) garage with brand new Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 Darts introduced.
On 29 July 2017, the allocation was transferred to Mandela Wharf (MG) garage.
In December 2017, Wright Electrocity bodied VDL SB120s were introduced.
On 15 January 2018, the Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 Darts were replaced by Wright Streetlites.
