London Buses route 234 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Barnet and Highgate Wood, it is operated by Metroline.


HistoryEdit

Route 234 commenced operating on 7 October 1989 between Archway Station and Potters Bar Garage via Muswell Hill - Colney Hatch Lane - Friern Barnet - Whetstone - Barnet Church - Hadley Highstone. The route was initially operated by London Northern from their Potters Bar (PB) garage using MCW Metrobuses and Volvo Ailsas. The route was introduced to replace the withdrawn section of Route 134 between Friern Barnet and Barnet Church.

On 2 February 1991, the route was extended from Barnet Church to Barnet Hospital and was converted to full MCW Metrobus operation.

On 25 June 1994, the route was converted to midibus operation using Optare StarRiders, the route was revised to terminate at The Spires at Barnet and was extended to Potters Bar Garage at all times to replace route 263. At the same time, the route was rerouted between Friern Barnet and Muswell Hill via Coppetts Road and was withdrawn between Muswell Hill and Archway.

On 26 October 1994, the route was included in the sale of London Northern to MTL.

On 31 January 1998, the route was converted to low floor using Marshall Capital bodied Dennis Dart SLFs and the route was extended from Muswell Hill to East Finchley via Route 102 but was withdrawn between Barnet and Potters Bar and garage journeys now running dead.

On 3 July 1998, the route was included in the sale of MTL to Metroline.

On 31 August 2002, the route was extended from East Finchley Station to Highgate Wood.

On 26 May 2007, the Marshall Capital bodied Dennis Dart SLFs were temporarily replaced by 10.2m Plaxton Pointer 2 bodied Dennis Dart SLFs.

On 7 July 2007, the 10.2m Plaxton Pointer 2 bodied Dennis Dart SLFs were replaced by Marshall Capital bodied Dennis Dart SLFs.

In September 2007, the route was permanently converted to 10.2m Plaxton Pointer 2 bodied Dennis Dart SLF operation.

On 30 January 2010, the route was retained by Metroline.

In September 2012, the 10.2m Plaxton Pointer 2 bodied Dennis Dart SLFs were replaced by brand new Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 Darts.

On 31 January 2015, the route was retained by Metroline.
