London Buses route 233 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Swanley and Eltham, it is operated by London General.

HistoryEdit

Route 233 commenced operating on 27 October 1984 between Eltham Well Hall and SWANLEY LCBS Garage via Avery Hill - Sidcup - Foots Cray,Birchwood Corner as a Monday to Saturday service. The route was initially operated by London Transport from their Sidcup (SP) garage using Leyland Titans. The route was introduced to replace withdrawn route 21A.

On 21 February 1987, ECW bodied Leyland Olympians were introduced.

On 16 January 1988, the route passed to Boroline Maidstone from their Crayford (CR) garage using Optare bodied Leyland Olympians.

On 17 February 1992, the route passed to Kentish Bus but still operating from Crayford (CR) garage using Optare bodied Leyland Olympians.

On 5 September 1992, a Sunday service between Sidcup and Swanley was introduced operating from Dartford (DT) garage using Leyland Lynxes and Greenway Nationals.

On 16 May 1993, the Sunday service was transferred from Dartford (DT) to Dunton Green (DG) garages.

On 18 October 1993, Crayford (CR) garage was announced closed and the Monday to Saturday allocation was transferred to Dartford (DT) garage.

On 14 September 1996, Monday to Saturday service converted to single deck using Leyland Lynxes and Greenway Nationals and the Sunday service was extended from Sidcup to Eltham, replacing part of withdrawn routes 228 and 328.

On 28 September 1997, the Sunday service was transferred from Dunton Green (DG) to Dartford (DT) garage.

On 24 January 1998, the route passed to Metrobus operating from their Orpington (MB) garage using Plaxton Pointer bodied Dennis Darts and was rerouted between Eltham and Sidcup via New Eltham instead of Avery Hill, route 286 was revised to cover the withdrawn section.

In 2001, the route was converted to low floor using Plaxton Pointer 2 bodied Dennis Dart SLFs.

On 8 March 2003, the route was retained by Metrobus.

On 23 February 2008, the route passed to Arriva Kent Thameside with brand new Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 Darts introduced.

On 23 February 2013, the route passed to Metrobus operating from their Orpington (MB) garage with brand new Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 Darts.

In July 2014, the Go-Ahead Group restructured its bus operations, which included the transfer of Route 233 from Metrobus to Go-Ahead London.
