London Buses route 112 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Ealing Broadway and North Finchley, it is operated by Metroline.

History[]

Route 112 commenced operation on 2 October 1935 between Palmers Green and Kew Green via Bowes Road - North Circular Road - Finchley - Brent - Neasden - Stonebridge Park - Hanger Lane - Ealing Common - Ealing Broadway - South Ealing - Kew Bridge. The route was initially operated by London Transport from their Palmers Green (AD) garage using AEC Renowns.

On 8 April 1936, the Sunday service was extended to Kingston Bus Station via Route 65 during the Summer months.

On 7 October 1936, the Sunday service was withdrawn between Kew and Kingston during the winter months and part of the allocation was transferred to Cricklewood (W) garage. AEC Regents were introduced at the same time.

On 4 May 1938, the route was converted to full AEC Regent operation.

On 12 October 1938, the route was withdrawn between Kew and Kingston.

On 3 May 1939, the Sunday service was extended from Kew Green to Hampton Court for the summer months and was extended from Palmers Green to Edmonton. At the same time, the Leyland Titan STDs were introduced and the Cricklewood (W) allocation was transferred to Hendon (AE) and Willesden (AC) garages.

On 8 November 1939, the Hendon (AE) and Willesden (AC) allocations were transferred to Palmers Green (AD) garage and an addition Monday to Saturday service was introduced between Brent Station and Park Royal Station. At the same time, the Sunday service was suspended between Ealing Broadway and Hampton Court during the winter months, the Monday to Saturday service was withdrawn between Ealing and Kew Green and the route was converted to full AEC Regent operation.

On 28 January 1940, part of the allocation was transferred to Willesden (AC) garage.

On 20 March 1940, the additional Monday to Saturday service was extended from Brent to Palmers Green and the Sunday service was withdrawn between Palmers Green and Edmonton.

On 13 November 1940, the Sunday afternoon service was introduced between Palmers Green and Park Royal Station.

On 29 October 1941, the Willesden (AC) allocation was transferred to Palmers Green (AD) garage.

On 14 January 1942, part of the allocation was transferred to Willesden (AC) garage.

On 25 March 1942, a Sunday am additional service was introduced between Palmers Green and Park Royal Station.

On 22 May 1946, AEC Renowns were reintroduced.

On 20 October 1948, AEC Regent III RTs were introduced.

On 13 April 1949, the route was converted to full AEC Regent III RT and AEC Regent operation.

On 3 May 1950, the AEC Regents were replaced by Leyland Titan RTWs.

On 2 May 1951, the Summer Sunday extension to Hampton Court was re-routed via Kingston instead of Teddington and the Leyland Titan RTWs were replaced by Leyland Titan RTLs.

On 17 October 1951, the Leyland Titan RTLs were replaced by Leyland Titan RTWs.

On 9 January 1952, part of the allocation was transferred to Cricklewood (W) garage and was converted to full AEC Regent III RT operation.

On 21 March 1954, the Willesden (AC) allocation was transferred to Cricklewood (W) garage.

On 19 May 1954, part of the allocation was transferred to Willesden (AC) garage.

On 6 October 1954, the Willesden (AC) allocation was transferred to Cricklewood (W) garage and the route was withdrawn between Ealing and Hampton Court.

On 4 May 1955, the route was extended to Kew Green during Summer Sundays.

On 12 October 1955, the route was withdrawn between Ealing and Kew Green during the winter months.

On 1 May 1957, part of the allocation was transferred to Willesden (AC) garage and Leyland Titan RTLs were reintroduced.

On 16 October 1957, the Cricklewood (W) allocation was transferred to Willesden (AC) garage.

On 26 November 1958, the route was withdrawn between Ealing and Kew Green and the Willesden (AC) allocation was transferred to Alperton (ON) and Cricklewood (W) garages. The route was converted to full AEC Regent III RT operation.

On 18 March 1959, the Alperton (ON) allocation was transferred to Willesden (AC) garage and Leyland Titan RTLs were reintroduced.

On 13 May 1959, the route was extended to London Airport Central via routes 65 and 83 during Summer Sundays.

On 14 October 1959, the route was withdrawn between Ealing and London Airport Central.

On 3 January 1962, the Cricklewood (W) and Willesden (AC) allocations were transferred to Stonebridge (SE) garage.

On 3 October 1965, the additional service between Park Royal and Palmers Green was withdrawn, this was partly replaced by new route 187A.

On 13 June 1970, the route was withdrawn between Finchley and Palmers Green, this section was replaced by route 212 and the Palmers Green (AD) allocation was transferred to Stonebridge (SE) garage. At the same time, AEC Routemasters were introduced on Sundays and the Leyland Titan RTLs were withdrawn.

On 15 May 1971, the route was converted to one person operation using AEC Swifts and the route was extended at Finchley to Manor Cottage Tavern.

On 31 January 1976, the Monday to Saturday service was diverted via new Brent Cross Shopping Centre.

On 23 May 1976, the route was converted back to double deck using Daimler Fleetlines.

On 22 April 1978, the route was extended to Palmers Green replacing withdrawn route 212.

On 15 August 1981, the Monday to Friday evening and Sunday service were withdrawn. At the same time, Stonebridge (SE) garage was announced closed and the allocation was transferred to Cricklewood (W) garage and Daimler Fleetlines were replaced by MCW Metrobuses.

On 14 March 1987, the route was converted back to single deck operation using Leyland Nationals except for a double-deck working using MCW Metrobuses.

On 30 July 1988, it passed to Atlas Bus & Coach with Leyland Lynxs introduced and the double-deck working was withdrawn.

On 2 June 1990, the route was extended from Palmers Green to Wood Green via route 29. At the same time, the route was re-routed at New Southgate via Station Road, Friern Barnet Road and Bowes Road instead of Telford Road and was re-routed to double run via Arnos Grove Station.

On 6 August 1994, the route was withdrawn between Brent Cross and Palmers Green, this section replaced by new route 232. At the same time, it passed to R&I Coaches operating from their North Acton (NA) garage using Optare Vectas and school day journeys was introduced between Ealing Broadway and East Finchley Cemetery operated by CentreWest from their Alperton (ON) garage using a MCW Metrobus.

On 24 October 1995, the route was included in the sale of R&I Coaches to MTL London.

On 24 November 1996, a Sunday service was introduced.

On 30 August 1997, the School day journeys passed to Metroline using a MCW Metrobus.

On 30 August 1998, the route was included in the sale of MTL London to Metroline.

On 31 July 1999, the route was retained by Metroline and the school day journeys were renumbered 611.

On 12 August 2000, the allocation was transferred to Cricklewood (W) garage and the Optare Vectas were replaced by Plaxton Pointer bodied Dennis Darts.

On 1 February 2003, the allocation was transferred to Perivale (PV) garage and converted to low floor operation using Plaxton Pointer bodied Dennis Dart SLFs.

On 31 July 2004, the route passed to Tellings-Golden Miller operating from their Hayes (TM) garage using brand new Caetano Nimbus bodied Dennis Dart SLFs.

On 17 June 2005, the route was included in the sale of Tellings-Golden Miller to Travel London.

On 21 May 2009, the route was included in the sale of Travel London to Abellio London.

On 1 August 2009, the route was retained by Abellio London.

On 2 August 2014, the route passed back to Metroline operating from their Cricklewood (W) garage and was temporarily converted to double deck operation using existing Alexander ALX400 bodied Dennis Tridents and Alexander Dennis Enviro 400s.

In October 2014, the route was converted back to single deck operation using brand new Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 Darts.

On 5 November 2018, existing 10.2m Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 Darts were introduced alongside the existing 10.8m versions.

In February 2020, the existing 10.2m Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 Darts were replaced by existing Enviro 200 MMC bodied Alexander Dennis E20Ds.

In May 2020, the route was temporarily converted to double deck operation using existing Enviro 400 MMC bodied Alexander Dennis E40Hs.

In June 2020, the route was converted back to single deck operation using existing Enviro 200 MMC bodied Alexander Dennis E20Ds and Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 Darts.

On 29 August 2020, the route was extended to North Finchley Bus Station, via Henlys Corner and Leisure Way, with the PVR increasing from 11 to 16. At the same time, the route was rerouted between Ealing Broadway and Hanger Lane via Madeley Road.

On 31 July 2021, the route was retained by Metroline using existing Enviro 200 MMC bodied Alexander Dennis E20Ds and existing Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 Darts.

On 25 November 2023, the northern terminus was altered to North Finchley Tally Ho. At the same time, the weekday PVR was increased from 16 to 17 to improve reliability and the Sunday frequency was increased from every 15 minutes to every 12 minutes.
