London Buses route C2 was a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. It ran between Parliament Hill Fields and Regent Street, and was operated by Abellio London.
History[]
Camden Hoppa Route C2 began on 24 March 1987 following the withdrawal of route 53 between Parliament Hill Fields and Oxford Circus. The route was initially tendered to London Country North West (LCNW), running between Regent Street via Camden Town to Parliament Hill Fields, using Optare CityPacers minibuses leased from London Regional Transport's Muswell Hill Garage. LCNW surrendered the route on 26 June 1988, with London Buses taking over operation of the route, from Victoria Garage using their leased CityPacers.
The route stayed at Victoria (Basement) Garage, eventually with London General using Optare StarRiders, until 29 January 1994, when the route was lost to London Northern.
The StarRiders moved with the route to Holloway (HT) garage, although this was only temporary as Northern Counties Paladin bodied Camden Link route branded Dennis Darts entered service on 25 June that year. The 1990s saw a brief period where the route was extended northwards via Highgate and Crouch End. Privatisation saw the route being pass with London Northern to MTL London Northern in October, later bought out by Metroline in July 1998.
On 29 April 2000, the route was retained by Metroline and converted to low floor operation using Plaxton Pointer 2 bodied Dennis Dart SLFs.
On 2 February 2002, the route was converted to double deck operation using Plaxton President bodied Dennis Tridents.
On 30 April 2005, the route was retained by Metroline.
On 14 April 2007, the route was converted into a 24-hour service.
On 27 June 2009, the route was extended from Oxford Circus, via Berkeley Square and Hyde Park Corner to Victoria station, replacing route 8 which previously operated this section.
On 28 April 2012, the route passed to Abellio London operating from their Battersea (QB) garage using brand new Alexander Dennis Enviro 400s.
On 15 July 2017, the route was withdrawn between Regent Street (Conduit Street) and Victoria.
On 8 August 2018, TfL released a consultation which intended to withdraw the route altogether. The proposal suggested withdrawing route C2 and extending route 88 to Parliament Hill Fields via the current C2 route.
On 30 March 2019, after 32 years of service, the route was discontinued and was replaced by route 88.
